
Phoumy Sayavong
Education: Ph.D. in Development Psychology, University of California, Santa Cruz
Experience and Affiliation: Currently working as a research associate for a private L.A. firm evaluating
educational technology programs throughout the US. Phoumy has worked at the National Aeronautics and
Space Administration’s as an evaluator for the Ames Educational Technology Team providing assessment of
their educational software programs and web sites. Phoumy has conducted research on strategies of effective
pedagogy at the Center for Research, Educational, Diversity and Excellence. His other research work includes
a longitudinal study of interactive multimedia instruction in high school mathematics classrooms and
evaluating a teacher summer institute that trains teachers to incorporate science into their curriculum. His
research interests include cross-cultural education, educational technology, mathematics instruction, learning
theories, and program evaluation. Phoumy took part in Satjadham’s planning committees for the Sevenths
Annual Conference, the First International Lao History Symposium, and the International Conference on Lao
Studies. He also serves as a board member of the United Laotian Community Development in Richmond, CA,
and the Laotian American National Alliance in Washington, DC.
