Mana K. Southichack

Education: Ph.D. in Economics, University of Hawaii, 1998
Experience and Affiliation: Director of Economics & Business Division of the Intergro Inc. and Economist at
the State of Hawaii Department of Agriculture (HDOA), Agricultural Development Division. In addition to
serving as Economist at the HDOA, Mana also provides business, agricultural, and economic development
consultancy for private businesses and aid agencies. He has lived and worked in Laos through August 1998 -
June 2002 as consultant for projects conducting rural development, agricultural development, income
diversification and rural finance development, and small business development with international aid
agencies, including UNDP, UNCDF, UNDCP, UNIFAD, several NGOs and private companies. Currently, Mana
lives in Hawaii, where he grew up, but continues to maintain his interest in the economic and social
development of Laos. Mana’s research and consulting experience and interest focused on economic
development, regional and international economics, rural- and microfinance, and agricultural economics. He
coauthored several professional articles on regional development in Asia. Mana is active in research on
socioeconomic development and related issues in Laos. He is a member of Western Economic Association
International, American Economic Association, International Association of Agricultural Economists, and
Hawaii Economic Association.
